My father kept reminding us, through every hardship, that education was our power and our key to a better future.
At the time, I could not fully understand how far those words would carry me. My family’s journey took us from Ethiopia through Yemen and Ireland before we arrived in Canada. There were periods of uncertainty, displacement and months spent in a shelter. Through it all, my father continued to place his faith in what education could make possible for his children.
He was right.
Education opened doors I had never imagined. It gave me the chance to study at York University, discover interests that would shape my ambitions and find communities that encouraged me to contribute. Scholarships helped make that journey possible. Today, as a graduate student at McGill University and a McCall MacBain Scholar, I carry a deep appreciation for the people and institutions that invested in my potential.
But I also carry a responsibility.
I believe every student deserves the chance to experience what education and opportunity can make possible. That belief is why I founded Occasio Technologies Inc. It is also why our company is guided by these words:

What my father gave us was a reason to keep looking forward.
His belief in education helped us understand that our circumstances did not have to define the limits of our lives. We could learn, develop our abilities and prepare ourselves to contribute, even when the path ahead was uncertain.
As I grew older, I came to understand that education offers more than a qualification. It helps you recognize your own capabilities. It introduces you to ideas, people and possibilities that can change the way you see your future.
That has been my experience. Education helped me develop the confidence to lead community initiatives, pursue further study and build a company around a problem I understood personally.
I want more students to have that chance. I want them to discover what they are capable of when their effort is met with access, encouragement and practical support.

Talent exists in every community. Access remains uneven.
Some students grow up knowing how scholarships work, where to find internships and whom to ask for advice. Others must learn each step on their own while balancing tuition, employment, family responsibilities and uncertainty about what comes next.
A student can be capable and committed, yet miss an opportunity because they never heard about it. They can have a clear ambition and still struggle to find the resources to pursue it.
I know how meaningful it can be when someone helps close that distance. Financial support can make continued study possible. Guidance can turn an unfamiliar process into something manageable. A person who believes in you can help you imagine a future you had not yet allowed yourself to consider.
At Occasio Technologies Inc., we believe access to education and opportunity should be a right for everyone, rather than a privilege reserved for a select few.
That conviction asks us to take students’ ambitions seriously and pay attention to the barriers between their potential and their next step.

A fair shot means a meaningful chance to participate. Students need information they can understand, opportunities they can discover and tools that help them prepare.
Success is theirs to define. It may mean remaining in school, becoming the first in their family to graduate, entering a profession, building a business or gaining the knowledge to serve their community.
As Founder and CEO of Occasio Technologies Inc., I promise to keep that purpose at the centre of our decisions. I will listen to students, take their experiences seriously and use their feedback to guide how we build. I will work to make useful support more accessible and communicate honestly about what our platform can do.
I cannot promise an outcome for every student. I can promise that our company will work to help more students understand their options and pursue them with greater clarity and confidence.

Occasio Technologies Inc. created MyOccasio to help Canadian students discover personalized scholarships, grants, internships, jobs, bursaries and other opportunities through AI-powered matching and guidance.
The platform brings these recommendations together with application tracking, academic tools and an AI Mentor. Our aim is to help students move through the process with a clearer understanding of what is available, what fits their goals and what they need to do next.
Making core academic tools available free of charge is part of that commitment. Students should be able to access useful support as they work to understand their progress and plan their studies.
MyOccasio is our practical contribution to a larger effort. Improving access also requires the work of educational institutions, employers, governments and communities. We want our company to be a constructive partner in that work, helping connect students with possibilities and supporting the steps they take to pursue them.
